Just to clarify the electricity situation: There are sockets in the room which are wired up to each other in a ring. It was loose wires. There are two troublesome cables. One is the crossover one that connects the hub to the wireless router. This doesn't seem to clip very reliably into the hub end, and it was this one causing the problem. The other is the normal one that connects the server to the hub. This is bad...

The server log shows DHCP traffic with 192.168.43.10 (the blue office computer) and 192.168.43.233 (probably the other office computer, I don't think that ever got assigned a fixed address). Some wiring must be loose up on the shelf somewhere I guess.

I would suspect the windows are the major route for heat loss in the hall, it could be worth getting these thermally lined - but then hall users have the choice of having it warm & dark or cold & bright...

I second the spikes. They don't need to be actually dangerously spikey, just something to get in the way of potential leaners. They could be ART, you know.

Or we put a horizontal bar across the top of the glass bit, that people can lean on safely. People like leaning at the bar.

We wouldn't know if they're hackable by us until I've opened one up and poked. Tweaking the software may require documentation or tools we can't get. Happy to try it if we get one but I wouldn't lean on that as a selling point.

Well, if you want to really think outside the box, then I think ideally the kitchen would be in the front room. Just to clarify, the mezzanine plan was to have comfy seating up there, with the free shop underneath. Well, actually when Matt & I first planned it the free shop was at the front of the room, but it's probably better at the back.

I can't remember which the grey ones are - does that mean channel 6 isn't working at all (it did for us) or just some of the sliders don't work? If the latter we may be able to fix it, possibly cannibalising some bits from the little one.
