How thick's the chain? A pair of bolt cutters will most likely do the trick.

CD decks would be neat to have but how much do you think they'd actually get used? Would probably cost something like 400-500 quid for a decent pair.

Just to clarify I'm mentioning that to Andy in case it's useful to him, not to say that there shouldn't be forest ones. Though I think some thought needs to go into how a workshop will fit in to the local picture alongside the bike station, and if free how to keep it sustainable and not abused. Grae...

How about painting it to look like it's covered in shit?

Like trampled soil with dead plants and mud running down it and the odd stray twig or bit of garbage or used condom.

I don't see any reason calling something a "manifesto" would affect its status under copyright law. However, since (I would have thought) manifestos are generally things that the authors want to see as widely distributed as possible, there might exist statements in or accompanying them which permit ...

But I should add that I agree it shouldn't become second-rate publicity. If the blog posts are crap, delete them. Keep the presence minimal, enough that people can see at a glance what forest is, how they can play here, and big fat link to real website.

I think it's nice to keep some sort of myspace presence because of the number of bands and other artists who use it. It's cool to see all the great people who play here linked there. As stands it prominently directs people to the website, which is fine. It takes no effort to leave it there and who k...

10dB = Falling leaf 140dB = Jet taking off so fourteen leaves falling at once is as loud as a jetplane? The decibel (dB) is a logarithmic unit. The difference between 10dB and 140dB is a factor of 10^13, not 14. So more like ten trillion leaves fallling at once is as loud as a jet plane. Not that y...

The other thing is that I don't think it would be wise to commit to buying a building without having at least a year or so's experience of trying to run the forest in it. There isn't any way to be totally sure in advance what locations are going to work well enough.

Reconnaisance Mission #1: North Bridge to Newington Road

I went for a walk earlier this evening from North Bridge down through Nicholson Street and Clerk Street to Newington Road, noting down every unused shopfront in sight on the way. I'm going to repeat this for some other areas. My aim here is not just to look for places we would definitely be interest...
