Also kind of a dynamic/static combo: http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/cinema/Cameo_Picturehouse/ http://www.filmhousecinema.com/ Cameo and Filmhouse are kind of similar to forest in that they have 'events' (in their cases, films). I propose a poll, who thinks the forest website should be like the bb? Or, who thinks the bb is simple and easy to use? This bb has approximately 40 subforums arranged into a dozen or so groups, if you want to get back to some post you read before it's impossible to find it, and if you want to post ...

we can make Drupal have a blog as easy to use a tumblr and have multiple personages posting content to it. I know, you've been saying this. Frankly, prove it. The drupal camp can go away and implement these promises now, when it's working just right and looking cool then come back and show it. Conv...

Hey, I think there might be another type of compromise worth discussing. While none of us are interested in compromising on website visions and doing design by committee etc., it may not need to be a binary choice between tumblr and drupal. For example there's discussion in another thread about maki...

Re: web meet-o-rama?
I agree. I have some thoughts about an agenda. The meeting has the potential to get sidetracked and to be a long debate with no resolution at the end. Therefore, I propose (hopefully without reopening a can of worms here) to head off certain potential discussions before-hand: 1. I don't think we sho...

Re: our website, so big and scrolly
Seriously, I'm glad we're going to have a meeting about this. We clearly do need one, because a number of different solutions have been suggested and different people have expressed preference for different solutions, so it won't do for drupal to just steamroller the tumblr camp because 'we don't ne...

Re: our website, so big and scrolly
I don't think I'm gonna vote in the poll. I'm not sure how the results of the poll will help us, and forest doesn't make decisions by polls or by majority. The poll is useful in that it sets out a number of possible solutions though. It doesn't look like the two camps are going to see eye to eye on ...

Re: our website, so big and scrolly
Another possible compromise might be to set a deadline (I'd suggest 1st June, giving over 2.5 months) to work on Drupal. We'll look at it again in June and if it has the front pages idea and the simple nice-looking blog and pages then I'd probably be happy with it. After that you could take as long ...

Re: our website, so big and scrolly
Yeah, I remain in favour of tumblr (or equivalent, free software hosted blog service) and simple, hand-crafted HTML&CSS for front pages. Assimilating these ideas into drupal just seems to be a lot of time and effort, and I don't see drupal's additional features as a benefit. (simplicity and lots of ...

Re: our website, so big and scrolly
I like the skeletons page. I think it's fine just how it is, it's okay for a front page to be somewhat unclear about what it links to so long as it's unclear in a good way. I like Gareth's too if it can be brought to life, so I'm totally into the idea of having a collection of these. Give each one a...

I like the idea of having a static front page that changes every now and then when different people submit different designs for it. Hi Milk, I think you've got it backwards. A simple blog will scale perfectly well, no matter how many posts that you add it will still remain a simple blog. A more powerful site like Drupal, on the other hand, does not scale well for an organisation like the forest. The more you add, the more differ...

An easy way to do what Jane is describing is to just make such a page as a simple HTML file. Host it on our server here at forest.org and make it the front page. Then, like Jane said, it would contain links to everything else including a link to Chris' tumblr site where people can go for the regular...

Re: the myth of strong passwords
You'd be unlikely to hit anyone's password at random because the number of users is much smaller than the number of possible passwords (which is literally trillions). I think it's no different from taking a list of all our bb usernames (which is easy to get) and repeatedly pickling a random username...

Re: the myth of strong passwords

I admit self-hosting has its advantages, particularly that it won't cost people anything to add lots of photos because we already pay for the hosting. Re: Image galleries on the new website
I think we have a history of failing to maintain and look after a self-hosted image gallery, and also that only a few have ever had an account on our site and use it to add content including photos. I just think it's easier to let someone else do the work of hosting it.

There's an easier way to do this, the forest already has a (free) photogroup on 23hq. Just add more photos to that. No need to host photos and maintain photo gallery software ourselves. Then paste a 23hq badge such as this one onto the front page of theforest.org.uk: http://seanh.freeshell.org/23hqf...
