The 2010 Middle East Festival Music/Chanting Events



1. Event: 2010 Middle East Festival One World Peace Concert –

A Charity Fundraising Concert for the Middle East Festival and the Reel Festivals.

Performers: Waa Sylla, Samba Sene and Diwan, GOL, and Babylon Arabic Band.

Waa Sylla perform songs and dances from West and Central Africa

Samba Sene and Diwan perform World Music with Senegalese soul

GOL perform ‘UK and IRANIAN NU-JAZZ WORLD ELECTRONICA’

Babylon Arabic Band perform Arabic songs throughout all Arab countries

Food and drink provided by Susie’s Diner.

Organisers: The Middle East Festival and Reel Festivals.

Venue: Roxy Art House, 2 Roxburgh Place, Edinburgh, EH8 9SU.

Date: Saturday 6 February 2010.

Time: Doors open 6pm. Concert 7pm-11pm.

2. Event: Love, Lover and Beloved: An Evening of Sufi Devotions and Ecstatic Music.

Facilitators: Diwan Ensemble, and Murshid Saadi Shakur Chishti (Dr Neil Douglas-Klotz).

Venue: Meeting Room, Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2JL.

Date: Saturday 6 March 2010.

Time: Registration: 6.30pm-7pm. Event: 7pm-9.15pm.

3. Event: Land-Song-Being: Sacred Chants with Fionntulach and Peter Govan.

4. Event: Songs for Coming Out in Daylight.

5. Event: An Evening of Sacred Chant with Rabbi Shefa Gold.

6. Event: Concert: The Nightingale and the Rose:

Musical meeting points of Christianity, Judaism and Islam in medieval Spain and beyond.

Alva: Vivien Ellis – voice, percussion, Giles Lewin – ‘Ud, vielle.

Venue: St John’s Episcopal Church, Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4BJ.

Date: Thursday 18 March 2010.
