Ideas for upcoming films

Post by swithun » Wed Mar 12, 2008 7:11 pm

If you can think of a film that we could show for Film Night (every Monday), please post here, or PM me.

At the moment, we have Brothers of the Head, which sounds very good.

Keep them coming.

i have salo , the worst film every made , it based on Marquis de Sade 120 days of Sodom.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sal%C3%B2_ ... _di_Sodoma

i personally dont want to watch it again , it very disturbing . but if other are interested then . this is rare opportunity to see this film . as it took me ages to get this on dvd as its out of print .

also i have holy mountain , heralded as the closes a film can get to an acid trip.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holy_M ... 73_film%29

this is a long film , so maybe el topo may be a better introduction to the work of Alejandro Jodorowsky
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Topo

Alejandro Jodorowsky i find very interesting as he originally was going to make dune , he assembled the team to make it, and for some reason it got panned , the best part of this team went on to make alien . i dont think he has made a mainstream film , but his influence is certainly there .

el topo reminds me of kill bill , a cross culture mishmash of pulp , i have this too , bu tit needs to be burned onto a dual dvd

The two Jodorowsky films were on at the Filmhouse a while ago. I missed El Topo, but saw The Holy Mountain. The imagery was a bit over the top, but I had the feeling I was part of something very strange.

I was quietly disappointed when I found out El Topo translates as The Mole.
Would certainly show for either of these films, though.

Excellent!

I was just about to recommend Jodorowsky's Fando y Lis.

His films are fantastic.

The luck of the Irish might be with us - we shall see. Otherwise it will be Polanski's Repulsion. I'll look at getting El Topo, Martin, for next week. Brothers of the Head, the week after?

Is anyone interested in buying a copy of Anarchy And Alchemy, the book about all of Jodorowsky's films?

I incorrectly bought two off Amazon for £9 each, much to my dismay!

Any offers accepted.....

A bit late, but yes.

Thanks for putting up a poster, who ever it was.

Do we want to have a name for the Film Night? I like Film Night, but do other people like Forest Film Club?

I always bill Tariq's Tuesday nights as
EDINBURGH FILM CLUB
so
FOREST FILM CLUB
as the two stand rings a little similar, no?
Is Tariq still showing his films on Tuesday, it's rare nowadays, he gets a poster up, or any word to what film he's showing.

It is Film Night on Mondays. Martin wasn't sure, so put both variants on different posters. But it is Film Night.

What happens at meetings always reflects reality eventually, even if we have to bend reality. The early Tuesday evening slot is for documentaries. But not mock-rock-umentaries.

just late
he's hasn't been off the radar
i'm unsure if he still showing anything.
i'll try and track him down
what's the general consensus about tuesday night showings
was the idea to shelve them now we have the lighter nights.

If someone can get hold of/download a copy
Escape To Victory is a timely surefire topical winner.
Michael Caine at his shouty crackers best.
Sylvester "This frigging game is ruining my life" Stallone all heart showing scant regard to the rules of the beautiful game.
Bobby Moore, Pele, Ossie Ardiles.
The rest of the allied team featuring half of Ipswich FC XI circa late seventies, a Pole, a Norwegian, a Belgium, a Scot, a Dane, one from Ireland, another from Holland.

I think the Forest DVD player is multi-region. I haven't seen Modest Blaise for years. It would be a good choice. Can you do it this coming Monday, Abby? I won't be there, but post here if you can do it. Thanks.
