a very quick and rough sketch. i'll work on better/clearer ones in the next couple of days, thought i'd post this to show for now. the sketch of the splash page is wrong in that i missed out the the main menu links, with which the dynamic info boxes would probably be placed best in another location....

both sound good ideas, albeit different - not that that's an issue in itself. different splash themes could have different emphasis on what is linked to, although it would be good to make obvious what groups people can get involved with.

i'm on that, just grabbing some stuff from the currently site first. the change will take several hours to propagate through the dns system before it changes what people see when they go to theforest.org.uk.

i spoke with gareth yesterday evening - he noted that clicking on the arrow graphic does actually download the file. i was thinking the same way as jane, i.e., that clicking the filename should download the file.....

well, the BB is better than nowt. it's certainly better than people having to access the web space via ftp, download text files, edit them, reupload, organise, avoid file change conflicts, etc - you get the point - to communicate ;)

the download page broke somewhat after pogo cleared up the files on the webserver. the links in the page that come up are inforrect - if you add /logos/ to the url linked to for items in the logos folder, i.e., http://theforest.org.uk/download/logos/forest.svg, you can grab them. a proper collection...

funnily enough, the Drupal page to create news content is actually less cluttered and confusing than the WordPress dashboard, though the aim is to make it even less cluttered, to the level of tumblr, removing any extranious sections that don't apply to the lay content poster.

as was mentioned briefly the other day, part of the plan for the Drupal site will be to make it output all the event information in a format that can be copied and pasted for the printed programme. maybe this could work for a poster also, though that would probably require a bit more graphic design ...
