Dear colleagues
Details of the 2008 round of the AHRCs Collaborative Research Training scheme have now been announced.
The aim of the scheme is to support institutions in establishing new or enhancing existing specialist research training that will primarily benefit arts and humanities doctoral students in the UK.
Applications can be made by any UK Higher Education Institution (HEI) or AHRC-recognised Independent Research Organisation (IRO), in collaboration with one or more UK HEI(s), or one or more museums, galleries, libraries, and archives.
The scheme is made up of 3 categories:
Specialist category
Applications are eligible from 2 or more eligible organisations. Applications must be led by an HEI or IRO. Applications should be for up to 10,000 for up to 2 years. Eligible costs include planning and co-ordination, publicity and marketing, and the production of training materials or resources.
National category
Applications are eligible from organisations intending to set up training on a national scale, for up to 60,000 for 2 years. Eligible costs are as above.
Student-led Initiative category (formerly the Conference category)
Applications are eligible from any UK arts and humanities doctoral student for up to 2000 towards the costs of setting up any collaborative research activity. Any activity or programme of training will be eligible in this category (such as a website or on-line resource etc), as long as it is organised by and for arts and humanities researchers.
It is hoped that the Collaborative Research Training (CRT) scheme can contribute to the aims of the AHRCs Museums and Galleries research programme in supporting new and existing collaborative partnerships between museums, galleries, archives and libraries, and Universities. Particularly for the CRT scheme we believe such collaborations in training could be of great benefit to arts and humanities students and could give them practical experience of working with or within such organisations.
Full details of the scheme and the application procedures can be found on our website:

The deadline for Expressions of Interest for the National Category is 31 January 2008. The deadline for full National bids and all Specialist bids is 31 March 2008.
