Project idea - Drums?

Post by Lynne » Tue Apr 27, 2010 2:02 pm

Hey

Got this e-mail today:

Hiya,
My name is Michelle Giesbert and I was wondering if you would be interested in having a free drum circle at forest's? I could bring up to 70 drums or so, plus small percussion. What would be needed is chairs (easier for djembe drums than sitting on the floor) and a place somewhere dry:) My phone number is *REDACTED AND SENT TO LUKAS*. Two colleagues and myself have held several drum circles in the borders and had courses on facilitating circles to help musicality arise.(Oh it would have to be at a weekend). It's a fun way of building community, it's safe and easy to join in. It normally takes 2 hours, but we'd need some time to set up and tidy after.
xx Michelle.

Do we want more drums?

a drum workshop/circle/whatnot would be fantastic!

i'm not sure that he's offering to give us the drums though, sounds more like just the use of them.

this sounds like my idea of enforced hell, but I am aware from my time at forest that other people think otherwise....!

I would suggest KMs get a say in this if it's going to be during the day, or is it just a one-off?

There have been drum groups in both the hall and in the Cave before, and neither really worked out - although Cave was better, just because less could fit there. You can hear it all over the building and it's impossible to have any other events happening at the same time.

i don't like the idea.
Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

lynne; she said "could". 70 drums are not inevitable. ryan's syggestion could work.

no worries, i'll lay out the options for her! (passed onto lukas, workshop-coordinator)

actually, it sounds like she wants to run a workshop at the forest so i'm goin to pass this over to lukas.

i'm also going to move this thread to a public forum. i don't think there's any reason it should be private.

ongoing drum workshops = bad idea i think. one off things can be ok, if they done at right time in right place...

Say what you like about moose fuckers, but at least they do it alfresco. If only there was some big park in Edinburgh where people could do this sort of thing.
